Custom Concrete with Clean Border Lines and Expert Level Workmanship
Another beautiful transformation by Hugo’s Concrete, this time on Creston Dr in Loveland, Colorado.
This project included building a new backyard patio and sidewalk featuring clean border lines and a seamless connection to the existing concrete. The homeowners were referred to us by one of their coworkers — a true reflection of the word-of-mouth trust we’ve built in Northern Colorado.
Project Overview
The homeowner wanted a modern, functional patio and sidewalk combination that blended perfectly with the home’s exterior and existing concrete slab. The layout included elegant border lines for definition and a natural flow from the patio to the walkway.
While the design itself was simple and stylish, the site presented several technical challenges that required detailed planning and precision during every step of the pour.
Project Challenges
Even small residential projects come with big details that separate a good finish from a professional one. This Loveland project involved:
- Working on a Sloped Grade
The property had a subtle slope running toward the house, which required precise grading to ensure water runoff away from the foundation and patio surface. - AC Unit Preservation
The air conditioning unit had to remain in place during construction. We carefully isolated it on its own pad, then poured and finished concrete cleanly around it — keeping service access clear and ensuring no vibration transfer. - Step-Down Transition
The new patio and sidewalk needed to step down and tie into existing concrete, requiring exact height measurements to achieve a smooth transition with no trip points.
Despite the site constraints, our team executed the pour with clean edges, sharp border lines, and consistent finish throughout.
Our Process
- Step 1 – Preparation & Excavation
Removed loose soil and debris, compacted the subgrade, and established the correct slope for drainage. - Step 2 – Forming & Design Layout
Installed forms to shape the patio and sidewalk with custom border lines. These borders were aligned with the existing concrete for a unified look. - Step 3 – Pour & Finish
Poured 4000 PSI fiber-reinforced concrete, hand-tooled control joints, and added the decorative border lines. Each section was finished with precision to maintain consistency across the surface. - Step 4 – Around AC Pad Pouring
Concrete was poured and hand-finished carefully around the AC unit pad, maintaining clearance for airflow and future maintenance. - Step 5 – Final Detail & Clean Up
After finishing, our team removed forms, cleaned the site, and left a sharp, professional result that enhanced both curb appeal and backyard usability.
The Results
The outcome was excellent — a strong, stylish sidewalk and patio combination that added both value and beauty to the property. The crisp border lines provided a subtle decorative touch, while the layout maximized usable space for outdoor living.
The homeowner was thrilled with the results and appreciated our team’s care in keeping the AC system safe and the transitions perfectly smooth.
