Project details
- Location: Berthoud, CO
- Completed: July 2025
- Service: Driveway replacement
- Demolition: Old slab with embedded steel mesh
- Base: New compacted gravel
- Reinforcement: Rebar, plus fiber in the mix
- Concrete: 4000 PSI
- Finish: Broom finish with clean edges and expansion joints
The challenge
Steel mesh holds broken concrete together, so a mesh-reinforced slab does not come apart cleanly. It has to be cut and pulled out carefully so the areas around the driveway are not damaged in the process.
How we did it
- Broke out the old driveway and cut and pulled the steel mesh with the right equipment, keeping the surrounding areas intact.
- Graded the base, then placed and compacted new gravel.
- Set rebar throughout the slab.
- Poured a 4000 PSI mix with fiber, broom finished it and cut expansion joints for crack control.
The result
The homeowner has a new driveway with clean edges and a broom finish, built on fresh base with modern reinforcement. Careful prep is what makes a driveway replacement last; browse more of our recent work in Berthoud and nearby towns.
