Heavy-Duty Driveway Replacement on 7th St in Windsor, CO

This Windsor homeowner needed room to park a motorhome, but the old driveway sloped badly, sat on loose soil and was boxed in by worn garden beds. We tore it out, rebuilt the base and poured a thicker, stronger slab on a wider footprint.

Project details

  • Location: Windsor, CO
  • Service: Driveway replacement, extension and walkway connection
  • Thickness: 6 inches
  • Concrete: 4500 PSI mix
  • Reinforcement: #3 rebar plus fiber
  • Finish: Broom finish with a custom control joint layout
  • Built for: Motorhome and heavy vehicle parking

The challenge

A standard swap was not going to work here. The driveway had a steep slope that drained poorly, the soil under it was loose, three garden boxes took up space the homeowner wanted for parking, and the old layout could not take the weight of an RV.

How we did it

  1. Removed the old concrete, the three garden boxes and the debris around them.
  2. Dug out the unstable soil and rebuilt the base, compacting it twice before the forms went in.
  3. Extended the driveway toward the fence line while keeping the 6-inch setback the City of Windsor requires.
  4. Tied #3 rebar through the whole slab and used a 4500 PSI mix with fiber added, from a plant in Loveland.
  5. Poured the slab a full 6 inches thick, then broom finished it and cut a custom joint pattern.
  6. Connected the new driveway to the existing backyard sidewalk and ran the gutter downspouts through underground pipe so roof water drains away from the concrete.

The result

The homeowner now has a wider driveway that can carry a motorhome, drains properly and flows straight into the backyard walk. A 6-inch slab with rebar and fiber is what we recommend whenever a driveway replacement has to handle RVs, trailers or work trucks; browse more of our recent work for other driveways.
