Backyard Patio and Drainage Fix on Snow Mesa Dr in Fort Collins, CO
This homeowner on Snow Mesa Drive had a bad experience with a previous contractor and wanted to know the next job would be done right. The yard had uneven ground and roof downspouts that dumped water right where the patio needed to go.

The challenge
Several downspouts discharged straight into the yard, which had left the soil soft and wet exactly where the patio was going. The ground was uneven, and after the last contractor the homeowner understandably wanted to understand every step before saying yes.
How we did it
We visited the property twice before scheduling to walk through the soil prep, compaction, drainage plan and timeline. Then the work went like this:
- Graded and leveled the uneven areas and removed old material that was not fit to build on.
- Compacted the base thoroughly so the slab has a stable footing in Fort Collins soil.
- Routed each gutter downspout below grade and away from the patio so water no longer collects under the concrete.
- Laid out the patio with a slope that carries water away from the house, then poured and finished it.
- Walked the homeowner through the finished patio and showed how the water now drains.
The result
